ROMULUS 1 MARKET DRAYTON TOWN 2
ROMULUS slipped to a disappointing defeat at the hands of Market Drayton Town last Saturday, with the Shropshire side completing a league double over Richard Evans' men.
The first half ebbed and flowed with few chances at either end – Martyn Davies was denied the opener for the visitors by Chris Jay's reflex save, while Liam Francis and Ashley Jackson went close for Romulus.
Drayton got their breakthrough four minutes before the break – Nicky Porter was left in space 25 yards out and he drove a fizzing drive across Jay, finding the bottom corner of the net.
Tom Rogers struck the woodwork for the visitors before half time, and Kyle Blake should have doubled Drayton's lead after the interval, while Sean Robinson hit the post as Roms probed.
Drayton bagged a deserved second in the closing stages when substitute Dorryl Proffit cut inside and beat replacement keeper Lewis Exall from 20 yards.
The lively Charisma Agbonlahor was hauled down by goalkeeper Damien Stevens late on – Stevens was dismissed and Marvin Johnson tucked away the resultant penalty, but it was too late for the Roms to fight back.
STAMFORD 3 SUTTON COLDFIELD TOWN 2
THE Royals slumped to a disappointing away defeat as their play-off hopes suffered another set-back.
Bruno Holden scored a hat-trick for the Daniels as they moved five points clear of Sutton with a game in hand.
Sutton had come from behind to lead 2-1 with goals from Mark Bellingham and Joel Fuller before two goals in as many minutes for Holden sealed victory for Stamford.
