2012 - the Olympic year - is finally upon us, and this year will also be a landmark twelve months for one of Sutton Coldfield's biggest sporting events.

The Great Midlands Fun Run celebrates it's tenth anniversary, and event director Tracey Spare believes that this year's will be the 'best ever'.

A logo and timing mechanism are among the new initiatives, and the number of competitors will this year increase to 7000.

With the increase in spaces, Tracey hopes that all who want to take part will be able to. Online registration will open on February 3, with postal and personal applications being accepted a week later. A 'first come, first served' policy will again be in place.

There is a new location for runners wanting to apply in person - the Our Place Community Hub on Farthing Lane.

Tracey told the Observer last week: "I'm thrilled to confirm that the team at Our Place Community Hub has kindly agreed to process personal applications from Saturday, February 11."

"Those wishing to enter in person or collect application forms can then visit the centre on weekdays between 10am and 3pm from Monday, February 13."

He continued: "Next year is a huge year of celebrations in the UK, with the Olympics and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. We're hoping that our tenth anniversary can help lift spirits in 2012 and reach another record breaking total."
