DETECTIVES have released these CCTV images of two women they want to speak to after an elderly woman had cash stolen from her handbag while shopping on Erdington high street.

The 82-year-old shopper had withdrawn the money a short time earlier, before continuing with her shopping at around 12.30pm on New Year's Eve.

Police would now like to speak to two women, described as Eastern European, in connection with the incident.

The first female was wearing a dark jacket, a scarf and a woolly hat, while the other wore a light coloured jacket with a matching scarf and a woolly hat.

Detective Constable Paul Bradbury, from Sutton Coldfield's CID, said: "We are keen to speak to the females pictured as part of this ongoing investigation.

"So if you believe you may know who they are, or spot them when you are out shopping, please get in touch.

"We're also asking shoppers to follow simple advice to prevent further similar incidents.

"Always keep bags closed and close to you, be discreet when handling cash and try to be aware of your surroundings.

"If you witness anyone acting suspiciously, please let officers know."

Anyone who can help identify the women, or sees them while out shopping, are asked to contact Sutton Police on 101.
